November 12, 2011: Weyers Cave, VA
President Jamie Kerr called the
meeting to order. Barbara Clary, Robert Pembelton,
and James Cook gave a 2011 National Convention Report to the juniors and
thanked them for all of their hard work with the convention. They also presented Jamie Kerr with a $5000
check for the juniors from the national convention fund. The juniors will
discuss how best to use this money in preparing for the next convention. The
minutes were read by secretary Hayley Potts and approved (Cole Leonard/Logan
Potts). Jamie Kerr gave the treasurer’s
report for Lindsay Barker and reported the balance as being $11,775.24.
We began
the old business with a breakdown of money earned from our fundraisers this
past year. The semen raffle raised $480
and the food booth raised $655.46. The two raffle baskets at the national
convention (I-pod raffle and VA wine raffle) together raised $2980. The money from the raffle baskets went into
the scholarship fund. We raised $260.50
with the t-shirts that were sold with the group from North Carolina. The ornament sales have raised $1,171.75 to
date. Jeff Meador clarified the “Pay It
Forward” discussion from the previous meeting and the exact reasons the idea
was dismissed at the national level.
In new
business we discussed what to do for 2012 fundraisers. The motion was made to keep the same fundraisers
as in previous year, with the stipulation that the silent auction was moved
from the state convention back to being held at Field Day (Cole Leonard/ Logan
Potts). The 2012 slate for officers and
board of directors was elected as follows:
President- Liz Leonard
Vice President- Ben Smith
Secretary- Hayley Potts
Treasurer- Cole Leonard
Reporter- Davey Hardesty
Area 1 Representatives: Logan Potts & Trip Bopp
Area 2 Representatives: Isabelle Leonard & Ashley Rubush
Area 3 Representatives: none
As there are currently no active members in Area 3 it was
decided to leave the position open for this year in the hope of gaining new Area
3 members in the coming year who would be able to fill the position. No changes were made to the bylaws concerning
the area representatives.
Jeff Meador
suggested that all members stand and introduce themselves to the new members
who were with us. Liz Leonard then gave a report on the 2011 National
Convention that Virginia hosted in Richmond.
She told how Virginia won the digital scrapbook contest and had a 5th
place Jr. Quiz Bowl team consisting of team members Logan Potts, Grace Ott,
Isabelle Leonard, and Matt Smith. Hayley Potts was 1st place on the
senior division Knowledge Exam, Davey Hardesty was a YDJM finalist, and Chris
Potts was a DJM finalist. Chris Potts
was also a recipient of the competitive NHWSO scholarship, and Virginia won
Penny Wars. It was discussed that money
will be collected throughout the year for the 2012 Penny Wars in Missouri. The meeting was
adjourned (Cole Leonard/ Trip Bopp).
