The Virginia Junior Holstein members held their annual meeting on Saturday November 17, 2007. During our activity night on the 16th the Juniors enjoyed a pizza dinner and had some fun ice skating. On Saturday morning we had our speech contest, jeopardy contest, and business meeting. We had seven speech participants. Matthew Liskey won the junior division, Liz Leonard won the Intermediate division, and Rosemary Liskey won the senior division. There were several participants in the Jeopardy contest, which was run by Kristy mcComb. . Logan Potts won the Junior division, Paula Craun won the Intermediate division, and Derek Heizer won the Senior division. The top three winners of both the speech and jeopardy contest received cash prizes. During our business meeting we elected a new slate of officers and board of directors as follows:

We also heard a report from Barbara Clary, co-chair of the 2011 National Convention, about the plans that have been made for the 2011 convention that Virginia will be hosting. After discussion it was decided that we will hold a social where all members would work on the scrapbook that will go to the 2008 National Convention in Wisconsin. The Long family offered to head the banner committee for the new banner. We also discussed fundraisers and decided to keep the same ones as we used last year.

After our business meeting and contests we all attended the luncheon where the Juniors named their Honorary Junior Member of the Year. This year the award went to Jeff and Phyllis Meador. Former president, Rosemary Liskey, presented the Junior All Virginia awards and announced the contest winners. We also heard the first place speech from each division.

This year's National Holstein Junior Convention took place June 22-26 in Knoxville, Tennessee. All of the Virginia Junior members chose to take the long drive instead of getting stranded in airports! Friday was the registration day. Then Saturday we had several people compete in activities. Liz Leonard and Kathryn Liskey both competed in the Public Speaking Contest as intermediates. Logan Potts and Daniel Long competed in Junior Dairy Jeopardy in the morning. Logan ended up in third place and Daniel in the top six. Derek Heizer and Hayley Potts competed in Intermediate Jeopardy. Hayley came in second place. On Sunday we had a choice of two tours we could take. One was to Dollywood all day and the other was to Ma-Tom-Ba Holsteins in the morning and Dollywood in the afternoon. At Ma-Tom-Ba we saw their animals and several other nice Holsteins from other nearby farms. We spent the day in Dollywood riding roller coasters, water rides, and walking around looking at Dolly Parton's amusement park. Then it was back to the contests Monday. Rosemary Liskey, Chris Potts, Jamie Kerr, and Lindsay Barker made a strong appearance in the Senior Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest. On Tuesday we watched the Quiz Bowl finals and went to the Junior Banquet.
