Two Distinguished Young Virginia Holstein Members

David Hardesty, Jr.(left) of Berryville has been selected as a 2011 Young Distinguished Junior Holstein Member.  He is one of eight junior members nationwide that have been selected for this honor based on an extensive application of his participation on the family farm, junior Holstein and other youth activities.  "Davey" becomes only the third Virginia junior Holstein member to receive this award since its inception in 2004.  The Young DJM Award is for junior Holstein members under the age of 16. 

He is the son of David and Debbie Hardesty of Berryville.

Chris Potts  (right) of Purcellville has been named a Semi-Finalist in theNational Distinguished Junior Member Contest.  Twelve semi-finalists are named in this contest which began in 1922.  Six finalists will be named at the 2011 National Holstein Convention in Richmond in June.  Chris's selection for this award was after his submitting a comprehensive application. 

Chris is a junior at VA Tech majoring in dairy science and plans to return to his family's farm, Dogwood Farm, after graduation in 2012.  He has been very active in  4-H and the VA Junior Holstein Association and has served on the Board of Directors and President of the VA Junior Holstein Association.
