Crystal D. Grove

Crystal Diehl Grove, 74, wife of John D. Grove of Fishersville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, July 14, 2014 at her home in Fishersville, surrounded by her loving family. A daughter of the late Russell and Lydia Diehl, Crystal was born on December 23, 1940 in Rockingham County, VA. She was the second of six children raised on her family farm in New Hope, VA.

Crystal graduated from Wilson Memorial High School and later, Madison College. She first taught high school music in Petersburg, later returning to the Valley and teaching choir at R.E. Lee High School in Staunton. On July 17, 1965, Crystal married John D. Grove of Fishersville. Crystal spent her life on the farm caring for her children and home. She served as choir director and organist at St. James Lutheran Church for more than 40 years. Her love of music touched many lives, including both family and friends. She enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens and sewing; she also loved cooking family meals for the many that came to her home. Crystal served as leader of the Augusta County 4-H Dairy Club for several years, and was active in Extension Homemakers.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are three children, Beth Foster, and her husband Kevin of Fishersville, Dr. Mark Grove of Bolivar, MO, and Sara Jordan and her husband Calvin of Fishersville; two beloved grandsons, Grayson and Luke Jordan; five siblings, Alvin Diehl and wife Jean of Stuarts Draft, Ivan Diehl and wife Linda and David Diehl and wife Pam all of New Hope, Flora Williams and husband Jim of Fishersville, and Samuel Diehl and wife Lynda of New Hope; 20 nieces and nephews; and many more extended family, all of whom she loved.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. James Lutheran Church, Fishersville by Rev. Matthew A. Diehl and Rev. James W. Pence. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris Diehl, Rod Diehl, Michael Diehl, Russell Diehl, Alan Grove, Vincent Powell, Winston Whitecotton and Danny Snyder.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah , Post Office Box 215, Fishersville, Virginia 22939 or St. James Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 320 St. James Road, Fishersville VA 22939. The family would like to thank Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, Dr. Margaret Siman, and her many special caregivers.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
